Overview

“アジアの文化的連帯の中で、新しい社会のありかたを模索する -alternative asian life- ”

In modern Japan, there has been a significant influence from Western culture. While there are many positive aspects to this, the violence inherent in a Eurocentric view of history has been increasingly criticized in recent years. The neoliberal economy, which is driving Western-centric globalization, has emphasized economic rationality to the extent that it has created and exacerbated disparities and divisions even within the West, ultimately perpetuating the same essential system that existed during the era of imperialism. While there may have been successful development in society up until now, it is also evident that there are numerous challenges that need to be addressed. As we enter the 21st century, contemporary Asian culture has been gaining global attention. The era in which Asia and other non-Western regions were regarded as "peripheral" or "marginal" is also coming to an end. Post-war Japan has achieved economic development at a faster pace than other Asian countries, but this may also mean that it has reached a dead end sooner. In any case, if things are not going well with the current approach, perhaps it would be a good idea to shift our perspective and return to Asia. By demonstrating solidarity on a common cultural foundation, we can encounter the unique and interesting aspects of Asia that we may have overlooked or not previously recognized. We can explore alternative ways of organizing society. DEFOAMAT is an attempt to do just that in the neighborhood of Daikanyama. Through Asian music and art, we aim to share this perspective and mood.

近代以降の日本社会は、欧米のカルチャーから大きな影響を受けてきた。それ自体には素晴らしいものが多いとは言え、欧米中心の歴史観が孕む暴力性については、近年あらゆる場面で指摘されている。欧米中心のグローバリゼーションを牽引している新自由主義経済は経済合理性を偏重するあまり、欧米の内部にすら格差や分断を産み出し助長する要因となっているし、結局は帝国主義の時代から本質的なシステムは変わっていない。これまでの社会の在り方で上手く発展したと思われることがある一方で、行き詰り解決しなければいけない課題が山積していることもまた明白なのである。 21世紀に入り、アジアのコンテンポラリーなカルチャーが世界的に注目されてきている。アジアやその他の欧米以外の地域を「周辺」や「辺境」と認識する時代も終焉を迎えつつある。戦後日本は、他のアジア諸国よりも早いペースの経済発展を遂げてきた。その分、行き詰りも早いのかもしれない。いずれにせよ、これまでのやり方で上手くいかないことがあるならば、視点をずらしてまずはアジアに立ち返るのはどうだろう。共通の文化基盤の上に連帯を示しながらも、今までにはなかった、あるいは見落としていたアジアの良さ、面白さに出会う。 オルタナティブな社会の在り方を模索していく。 そのような視点とムードを、アジアの音楽やアートを通じて共有していく。 DEFOAMATは、代官山の地でそのようなことを試みるものである。
